Why do people conform? Explain your answer.



Basically, we want to be liked and we want to be right.

Normative influence - conformity based on a person's desire to fulfill other's expectations, often to gain acceptance (desire to be liked). Brain scans show that group judgments differing from one's own activate a brain area that also is active when one feels that pain of bad betting decisions

Informational influence - conformity that results from accepting evidence about reality provided by other people (desire to be right)
