Provide two example's of art that take advantage of the acuity limitations in the visual periphery. (Livingstone)



Rue Montorgueil in Paris, Festival of June 30, 1878 by Claude Monet- It depicts a French flags waving in a scene—the flags in the periphery are not as precise as those at the center. This is realistic because the acuity in our periphery is not as exact as that in our fovea.
Madame Henriot by Pierre-Auguste by Renoir- The face (especially the eyes) are very clearly painted, while the rest of the woman's body is not detailed, almost blending into the background. This directs our gaze to the woman's eyes.
