In the digestive process, what occurs in the esophagus and what nutrients are digested or absorbed in the esophagus?




Contractions called peristalsis move food through the esophogus. No nutrients are absorbed here. The food passes through the esophogial sphincter which acts as a door to the stomach and keeps the food in the stomach.
